about

There are lots of songs about a highly talented rock musician who nearly made it, and this is another one, a one-way dialogue to that failed artist. It’s also based on a sleazy 70s riff driven by a backbeat groove reminiscent of Pavement and, again, The Stones. I was happy that I managed to get some Korg synthesizer in there, as well as a rockin’ sax line from Gideon Brazil slightly reminiscent of ‘Lady Madonna’.

lyrics

Bam! Have you forgotten who I am? I was your biggest fan!
I had profound belief in you!
Chimes from some forgotten time, your heart was torn and tired
You sang from every part of it!
Pow! I’m a different person now, back then I made a vow
That I’d be plagiarising it!

Clowning for the camera, schlepping with the fans
Fuckin with the media, castigating fads
Hangin with the flunkies, postin all your plans
On your guitar stand

Bam! Whatever happened to the band? That damned elusive flame!
You had the drive to be chasin it!
Pow! So sad and lonely in the crowd! Why didn’t you reach out?
Instead, you dropped your bomb on it!
Chime! You didn’t make it, it’s a crime, you ran right outta time
It breaks my heart to think of it!

Clowning for the camera, schlepping with the fans
Fuckin with the media, castigating fads
Hangin with the junkies, postin all your plans
On your guitar stand
